Valentine's Day is almost here!

Well February is here. The Christmas holidays and the quiet days of summer are gone and 2024 is in full swing. Valentine's Day is just around the corner, a day which instills dread in the hearts and minds of many singles. It can be difficult to watch all those happy couples flaunting their love on social media or watching a colleague receive a beautiful bunch of red roses Valentine's Day.

So how do we make it through to February 15 without feeling like we're missing out?

Galentine's Day or Palentine's Day

Galentine's Day was a term originally coined by Leslie Knope, the main character in Parks and Recreation, and was a way to celebrate the wonderful friendships she had with her gal pals. Afraid they were missing out, the fellas coined the more inclusive term Palentine's Day. Why not organise dinner with some friends to celebrate your platonic relationships!

Keep it in perspective

It's just one day of the year after all and some of those happy couples you're seeing on social media might split by Easter. Social media has a way of making people's lives appear better than they may actually be and their relationship might be nothing like what you've been praying or waiting for.

Don't contact an ex

If you're tempted in any way to text an ex or someone you know who is not God's best for you don't do it! Whether it was your choice or not, you're not together for a reason. Take some time to reflect on what you've learned from past relationships and what you do or don't want in a partner going forward and just maybe you might even start to embrace your singleness. It can be pretty great actually. "S.I.N.G.L.E = Strong, Independent, Noticeable, Generous, Loyal and Enlightened" - Unknown.

Celebrate your progress

If you're not up for socialising on Valentine's Day take some time to pray and reflect on your growth, pamper yourself, enjoy a good book, watch a movie or anything you want actually. After all, you're single and you don't have to accommodate the wants and needs of anyone else!
